Who We Are and What We Do

Our Mission:  MATS’ mission is to provide high quality, purposeful media and academic technology solutions and support that advance teaching, learning, and working for the GCC community and its guests.

The Media and Academic Technologies Services (MATS) Department, a member of GCC’s Information Technology Services division and located in the Conable Technology Building, and its staff serve as liaisons and support resources between people and the various media and academic technologies (e.g., projectors, televisions, video conferencing and digital signage hardware) they use.  These technologies exist across all campuses, from classrooms to meeting rooms, hallways to mobile carts.  We also support a variety of GCC-sponsored events, such as the Fashion Show and Graduation, along with programs sponsored by valued outside organizations.   Key responsibilities include:

  • Support and manage audio-visual hardware and software
  • Lend AV hardware to staff, faculty, and students
  • Design, deploy, and manage mobile AV systems
  • Manage a variety of media and academic technologies in a variety of traditional and non-traditional spaces
  • Support faculty and staff to effectively utilize AV solutions
  • Manage all phases of AV-related projects
  • Copy, edit, and create video content
  • Explore and support integration of new technologies (e.g., Extended Reality)
  • Collaborate with other GCC departments to meet users’ AV needs
